recessed lighting
????? MV1989?™ asked:

I have recessed lighting in my living room & kitchen, and have recently noticed that the outter rings (baffles) on those lights are now yellowish in color, they used to be white. Is this just age?
I bought my house new, in 1992. My sister has the same issue with her recessed lighting.
No one in the house has ever smoked, and there is no grease or dust on them.

We just moved into a house built in 1993, and I would prefer to have lamp fixtures or recessed lighting instead of the ugly fluorescent light above. Can we do it ourselves or do we need to hire an electrician? Thank you for your input!!

With recessed lighting, can you only use the trim manufactured by the same company as the can or is the can/trim universal?

The wires have colors: one black, one white and one ground (i think). I know I should match each colour to black and black ; as well as white to white ; how about the ground wire, should I match them too like connect them together with caps?

I have 6 recessed lights in my basement with white solid (not baffle) trims that are sized for R30 with no space on the sides. I would like for these lights to give off more lighting. I have video taped my daughter walking her first steps and other firsts, (we hang out here most of the time) and it’s a bit dark. So, I’m thinking I need more light to get better video/photos. Will replacing the baffles (or whatever you call them) give me more light? If so, will reflective be better than step baffle, etc?

I have five, 4′ single bulb flourescent fixtures that I want to replace all on one circuit. They are old and have trouble keeping bulbs in place and I constantly replace bulbs. I have a drop ceiling and would like to replace with recessed lights, but I am worried the wattage would be too much for the circuit to handle. Has anyone experienced this repair before? Would I be better off just replacing the old flourescent fixtures with new ones?

I was wondering if installing recessed lighting with drywall is hard? since the basement if unfinished i’m sure I would have to install the recessed lighting first, then put up the drywall. how should I go about this? no water pipes in basement where drywall is going.

I’m trying to “Update” a 1996 Manufactured Double-Wide and would like to remove the ugly original lighting and install recessed lighting throughout the home. Is this possible? Can I use the regular housing that is available for stick built homes?
