table lamp
AyiE asked:

Weird thing, both my standing light and table lamp went out. I’ve replaced the halogen bulbs (twice.. and expensive) and checked the fuse, everything seems ok. What’s wrong here? They’re supposed to be straight forward equipments.

    you checked the bulbs and the fuse, try taking something that you know works like a hair drier that you have just tested and plug it into the outlets your lamps are pluged into. does the drier work? have you tried moving the lamps to another outlet? it might be your outlets. if not, tri replacing the socket in lamp. replacement light sockets are simple to do. make sure lamps are unpluged. if nothing workes in these outlets then i would coll my landlord, or an electrician.

    Well you’re right about the straight forward part, they don’t call it an electric ‘circuit’ for nothing.

    Check every single connection and component of the lamps. That means;
    - check the wall sockets and see if they work; if they don’t you might have blown a fuse,
    - check the cables for damaged insulation,
    - check the switches and check if you replaced the bulbs correctly and they’re put in tight enough.

    If nothing seems to be wrong something could be broken inside the housing and you’ll have to open it and have a look inside.

    you said you replaced the halogen bulbs if you touch the glass on halogen lamps when you put them in the oil from your skin causes the lamp to heat up and burn out very prematurely next time take a piece of saran wrap and hold that between your hand and the lamp when you put it in

    Honestly, unless they are really expensive lamps the best idea is just to replace them. Lamps should not be causing you this many issues and their seems to be a problem with them.

    Unless it’s very special to you, I’d consider replacing it. Some lamps just don’t last forever. Here’s a site that has a fairly large selection:

    If you really like the lamp you have, I’d suggest taking it to an electrician, but it could cost over 100 dollars.
